The Monuments of Svensmarke
A series of roadside information boards in the village of Svensmarke describe local trails and features of the local landscape in text, photographs and video – and declare them to be monuments. The information boards direct the attention away from postcard idylls and towards everyday infrastructure and landscape characteristics: a painted postbox, a pathway that children have made across a meadow, a place where a cat is buried...
The work presents a subjective view of what should be considered a local sight or monument. The information boards describe everyday sounds, observations and sensations at the various locations.
The texts focus on what is location-specific, and how we express this in language. Instead of traditional historical information, the boards provide information on unpretentious phenomena characterised by their temporary nature, slowness or apparent insignificance.

Vordingborg Municipality’s free telebus, 678, goes from Stege to Svensmarke on weekdays, 10am-5.30pm. The outward and return journeys must be booked at least one hour in advance at +45 5536 2560.
